Bankia is the name of the entity 100% owned by Banco Financiero y de Ahorros. It is the leading Spanish bank for domestic business, with total assets of 272,000 million euros and a net worth of 12,000 million euros. The bank was incorporated on December 3, 2010 and began operating on January 1, 2011. The merger of the seven savings banks took place in just four months, since the integration contract was signed on July 30, 2010.
