During the years 1960 and 1961, a group of university professors and important representatives of commerce and industry, gathered in the Prodies Civil Association (Promotion of Industrial Development through Higher Education), decided to found a new university. After two years of efforts, the University of Lima was created, the operation of which was authorized by Supreme Decree 23 of April 25, 1962. Prodies set himself the goal of establishing a different university, in accordance with the modernization process, in which The community spirit between teachers and students will be fostered. An outstanding member of this association and the first rector of the University of Lima was Dr. Antonio Pinilla Sánchez-Concha. The University began its work with 120 students grouped into two faculties, in a small premises located in the Jesús María district, Jirón Nazca 548, in front of Campo de Marte. Due to its rapid growth, on August 27, 1966, the Monterrico campus was inaugurated with an extension of around 40,000 square meters, which today reaches 69,958.84 square meters. Our campus has 1,483 parking spaces along with some other environments, such as the ZUM Auditorium and the Artistic Expression Zone, which are underground constructions that make it possible to gain considerable space for green areas on the surface. The University also has, a short distance away, a complementary campus located in the Mayorazgo urbanization in the Ate district. Currently, the University of Lima has approximately 15,000 students distributed among its General Studies Program, its eleven careers belonging to three university schools and its Graduate School; In addition, it promotes a Scientific Research Institute, and offers numerous services to students, teachers and the community in general.
