The Public Prosecutor's Office is a permanent institution, essential to the jurisdictional function of the State, responsible for defending the legal order, the democratic regime and unavailable social and individual interests. It is an autonomous and independent institution, which is not subordinated to the Executive, Legislative or Judiciary, which guarantees conditions for more effectively monitoring compliance with the law. The purpose of its existence, as the constitutional text itself says, is the defense of the legal order, the democratic regime and unavailable social and individual interests, that is, the function of defending society in the democratic regime established by the 1988 Constitution, having its performance committed to the defense of citizenship and the dignity of the human person.
